Randomizer Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to the ALttP Randomizer forum on Zeldix!
ALttP Randomizer is a romhack of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past which randomizes all item locations in the game, including chest contents, NPC gifts and boss drops. An extensive logic algorithm confirms that the game is always completable.
Other variations of the randomizer have been created which randomize enemies and other sprites; the destination of all entrances to the underworld; and other fun (or annoying) things. We use the term "plandomizer" to refer to a game in which all items are placed manually to create a certain challenge or puzzle, and as such aren't actually randomized at all
To generate a random game, or read more details about the various game modes of the randomizer, visit vt.alttp.run.
The website asks for a ROM, which is stored in your browser's cache, then the site only creates and applies a patch to that file. The site itself never provides a ROM.
Traditionally hacking of this game has almost entirely been done on a US version base ROM, and for good reason. It’s nearly the latest revised version of the game released, so it has the most bug fixes; it’s on the NTSC format, the most common internationally; and of course has a full multiple case English alphabet. Randomizer, however, was built on a JP base ROM. Since it was originally designed by and for speedrunners the common speedrunning version was used. The few unfixed glitches and shorter text boxes make the JP version the most appealing to speedrun.
Most tools and documentation have been made for a US version ROM, so nearly all of the hacking for randomizer has been done through ASM code. To see all of the ASM written for it check out the source at https://github.com/mmxbass/z3randomizer.
The randomizer community has a discord server for general chats, which can be found here: https://discord.gg/MsWxB5K
Have fun hacking and playing!

Yeah, Randomizer's a fun, but sometimes easy, and sometimes very very very difficult to solve.
