Re: Is a Super Game Boy Color real?
That said, the Super Game Boy 2 was a real thing:
https://nintendo.fandom.com/wiki/Super_Game_Boy_2
Released exclusively in japan, it only had a few improvements over the original Super Game Boy.
The improvements are as follows:
The addition of a link port.
The addition of a LED power light.
The addition of 5 new options for game borders/overlays.
And finally, the addition of a clock chip, to make it run at the Gameboy's original 59.7 Hz frequency, rather than running on the frequency of the SNES console.
The main reason for the upgrade was people complaining they couldn't trade pokemon with others since the original Super Game Boy didn't have a link port.
There were no changes to the color palate system, and no Game Boy Color functionality.

Hope dies last? The author of this video admitted it is fake so it isn't hacked. Maybe you manage?

Yeah, the Super Gameboy 2 was (and still is) the business.

Re: Is a Super Game Boy Color real?
Wouldn't it be as simple as merging the code for the Gameboy Colorizer.exe with a .bin of the Super Gameboy 2? I know that's wishful thinking, but...it should be possible for something like this to be made.
I mean, the Super Gameboy 2 DOES play a select/small amount of Gameboy Color games. Hhmmm...
My intuition tells me that the Gameboy Colorizer is the place to start digging if anyone wants to try to make a Super Gameboy Color.

Re: Is a Super Game Boy Color real?
from a quick (at not at all in depth) look at the colorizer, it looks like what that does is simply hack in a color pallet to pre-GBC Game Boy ROMS.... which doesn't really seem like it would be that different from the basic colorizing the super gameboy already does to GB games.
That is a FAR different beast from allowing what is essentially an emulator running within another emulator to emulate a completely different system (and yes, there were more changes in the GBC than just adding colors).
Is it possible to code something to emulate the GBC through the SNES to allow for MSU modding? Frankly... Yes. Will it ever happen? I very much doubt it, at least not anytime soon.
It's not a case of slight modification of the SGB, it's a case of completely rebuilding it from the ground up, including adding several chips that weren't present in the original SGB.
It would likely take someone on the level of skill and knowledge of Byuu himself (the guy who made the MSU-1 chip) to create such a thing.

Thanks for that clarity. It’s still an epic edit on YouTube.

Did you manage to make the Emulator run in SGBC mode? I tried some configurations but I didn't have any success.
