Do report back if you do! I've only tested it on emulator , so your input will be greatly valued.
By the way, this patch works with the recently released german fantranslation:

good confirmation. i'm not entirely surprised since it's all the same base rom, but i'm glad somebody checked.
i want to return to this one someday and add some little details like fades and resumes.

Thanks a lot for the great MSU patch for this game. I made the German translation and played a while after adding the MSU patch. Unfortunately the game crashes in chapter five when entering the volcanic research facility. The music continues but the screen is black and no more controls possible. Actually I haven't tried it with the Japanese or English translation.
It did indeed crash at that location.
it was an issue with a fix i'd done to stop it from sending #$00 to $2007 every screen transition (and thusly stopping MSU1 playback)
I rerouted the send to WRAM instead of running in bank 00 and it seems to have solved the problem.

Sounds like great news. Thank you so much for your support. The MSU-Patch makes the "sound" experience of the game so wonderful and I just love it
If you already updated the download link with the new patch file I'd give it another try and do a whole playthrough.
i did. thankfully the game is really quick to play with a walkthrough/ fast forward.. i'll give it a go on the weekend maybe..
and i agree. the restoration of soundlink titles in any way can only be a good thing.

I made a complete playthrough with the German translation and I found some passages where the music doesn't play as wanted.
Chapter 1
The music in the shellfire forest stops playing after receiving the key to the shrine from Professor Ursus Spelaeus and leaving his cave.
The music continues after entering the cave where the shellfire is.
The music stopps again after returning the shellfire to the Professor.
The "problems" are solved when re-entering the area (shellfire forest).
Chapter 6
After you're asking Fazello in the R. C. Society to make the shoes for the elephant for you the music stopps as soon as you wake up in the hotel after the conversation.
The music in Ihatovo city only continues when you enter the cinema and leave it again (guess because of another music in the cinema) or when you go to the map and re-enter Ihatovo city.
Same problem as mentioned above however after you gave Ozbel the shoes for the elephant and when you leave the are and return at night.
The music continues when you re-enter the area again.
Same problem as before after the elephants rushed to Ozbels house.
The music continues when you re-enter the area again.
Chapter 7
After giving the kuckadoo the throat medicine and visiting the cinema in Ihatovo the music stopps as soon as you're leaving the cinema.
Going to the map and re-entering the city of Ihatovo solves the problem.
So that's all that I could figure out. No more crashes. Still the game is so much better with your MSU-Patch

i'll put some time into correcting those this weekend then, thanks for the playthrough and comprehensive list
Great work ! Thanks a lot for that !!
Can you tell me where the music comes from, please ?

this music is from a CD release of the BS-X soundlink tracks. there were two different soundtrack releases,
https://vgmdb.net/album/7662
and the more complete
https://vgmdb.net/album/4094#
unfortunately not all tracks in the game are represented in the BS-X version, and so there are times when SPC fallback occurs.
there's also a Piano version soundtrack, from 2013 (reprint 2019) but those files aren't available..

The original composer also has another version of the soundtrack coming out soon-ish to celebrate the game's 30th anniversary. i'm really looking forward to it.

I played the game once again with your new patch. Now everything works as it should and the music doesn't stop any longer. Great work!
It's been 30 years this month for when this game came out. Added the Piano Solo album tracks as a PCM set. Big thank you to Relikk for converting and Polar for finding it in high quality.
