Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
So last Saturday and early Sunday, I took a break from my projects (Chrono Trigger MSU-1 and YouTube videos) to work on an another MSU-1 hack. When I heard Blake Robison's Super Metroid Symphony, I really wanted to replay the game hearing that music. Drakon already did it but like you know, he doesn't release his works so I had to do it myself.
The album I used is not free and I had to make lots of edit to the music to make it fit into the game. I can't also distribute my audio pack because it requires you to buy the album first and I can't confirm that you really bought the album.
I want the release the patch but I can't until I have a music pack that I can distribute with it. I'm too busy right now to find proper fan-made music and that's where I inquiring the community. Anyone will be willing to find and edit fan-made music so I can release my patch ?
Here's a teasing of the patch:
Thanks

I was never a huge Metroid fan. I mean, sure, I played it, and it's not like I hated it, but I never got googly-eyed over it like others did.
This...well, it hasn't really CHANGED my opinion, but it HAS made me more appreciative of the game.

That's the one I've been using in my personal pack but the problem is that music is not free, the guy who made this sells the album. I had to edit the tracks a lot to make them looped and sound properly. I can't distribute edits of an album that's not free.

HOLY COW!! Finally a MSU1 for Super Metroid! That I can use!
I have been waiting for someone to come around to Super Metroid MSU1 for awhile now. I hope this gets released for every SM hacker (like me) to use for their own projects! Thank you!

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
This new pack brings a lot of atmosphere to the game. A lot of them are just epic like that Maridia (Rocky Underwater Area) song. The water flowing in the background not only bring some atmosphere, but also is relaxing for the ears!
The only song I dislike is the Norfair (Ancient Ruins Area) one as it's a bit too remixed for my taste and I've already seen better re-orchestrated versions of this song on youtube.

There you go, I just released the source code:
https://github.com/mlarouche/SuperMetroid-MSU1
Now if someone would be kind enough to edit a music using the music provided by GinBunBun so I can release the compiled patch on romhacking

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
I think you should just release the complied version now and just wait for someone to actually make the music for it, as releasing it now will really help encourage people to make the music for you IMO.
Besides, I tried last night to get it running but I couldn't get the source to work.

I've had the same issues as my bro, but Kurrono's post actually helped! My project, Super Metroid Black Plague can now use CD quality music! Thanks Kurrono!

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
Hmm... for some reason I can't get the version off github to work in higan v094. I have a full set of dummy PCM files (a simple 440Hz sine wave), but it's just playing the original .spc's. Here's the manifest file I'm using:
I renamed the files to metroid3-msu.* which shouldn't be an issue because the manifest file is written to match. Any thoughts?

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
I use only for higan MMX3,bsnes for the rest of the games but for higan to work u need super metroid file manifest.bml ..for bsnes is supermetroid_msu1.xml
kurrono- Since : 2015-03-22
Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
I posted the bml file I'm using. I suppose the other thing to check is to try with the -d EMULATOR_VOLUME flag, but I would think it should still work without that, right? In any case, can you post file hashes of the patched ROM (with and without -d EMULATOR_VOLUME) so people can verify that they patched it correctly?

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
I tried with higan..i had no luck ..making the cd sound to work..i use bsnes 0.70 that works fine

Can you post the file hashes for the patched ROMs, please?

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
Im not home right now to give u the hashes ill be hon like 5 or 6 hrs..so ur msu1 games work without the 1 on msu1? Like smw, zelda 3,mmx and mmx3?cant wait to see f-zero with arranged music..

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
The '1' in msu1 isn't necessary because I'm explicitly specifying the filenames in the manifest, so I can name it whatever I want. The .msu file isn't even necessary at all in higan. I just realized that my Zelda MSU-1 folder has the file msu1.msu listed in the manifest but the file doesn't exist, and it still works. I do know that the .msu file IS necessary for the SD2SNES to properly detect it and enable the MSU-1 module. I can wait on the file hashes, that's fine. I just need that to confirm that the ROM patched correctly because I can't really find any other issues :/

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
Ok, I got some help on byuu's forum, stupid mistake on my part, the msu1 section of the manifest needed a mapping definition:
- Code:
msu1
rom name=metroid3-msu.msu size=0x0000
map id=io address=00-3f,80-bf:2000-2007
track number=0 name=metroid3-msu-0.pcm
track number=1...

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
Quick bug report. If a track is missing causing it to fall back to the SPC, and then an MSU-1 track starts playing which should stop the previous track, it doesn't stop the SPC. For instance, if you have a PCM file for track 5 but don't have one for track 4, load the game and click a button to skip the intro. When the file select screen loads, you'll hear both SPC track 4 (bank $03:04) and the MSU-1 track 5 playing at the same time.
Basically, the code to stop the previous track when you start a new one also needs to stop the SPC track just in case.

It is fixed ! Also, I got the okay from Blake Robinson to release my edited music pack using his music so an official release is coming real soon

Re: Super Metroid MSU-1: Need all fan-made music for release
Sweet! I'm working on my own music pack based on rips from the GC/Wii games, but it'll be awesome to have that pack as well
A minor gripe I have is that there doesn't seem to be any fade-out when stopping tracks, leading to harsh cut-offs, like when you start your game (immediately after the map shows your last save location).
