Time zones exist! It wouldn't surprise me if the release date has to be delayed due to bugs.

Because it is the 3rd year after the year, which has 29th of February, the actual new year 2016 is at 18:00 (ie 6 PM on january the 1st), so you still have to wait. On 31st of dec 2016 it will all come together, so 2017 will be accurate in hours again.

Well reguardless of if the beta is out or not. You have exactly 1 full year to finish the whole game!

And less than a full year to release the beta.
