Re: Erock's Dungeon Designs 2014-2017
Here is an idea that I've had for a while. The idea was to take a normal sized room and stick it smack dab in the middle of a big room.
Its a super inefficient use of space, but it could add variety to a dungeon.
There are a few more configurations. You could make a small room at each door with the long hallways meeting in the middle or make 9 small rooms out of this big room.

Something else that would add variety to a dungeon is using halls instead of doors like the desert palace. It's super easy to do as well. Doors can be a pain in the ass when it comes to dungeon construction anyway.

Re: Erock's Dungeon Designs 2014-2017
Remember how I said that I wanted to make my own zelda 3 hack in the style of an atari 2600 game named plextona, well I might still make this, but in the SMW engine instead of the zelda one.
Here is a test demo.
So I might make my own zelda like adventure game in smw. I might have to code a few new things but it can work also I can port a lot of my puzzle ideas that didn't make it into the conker game into my own game.

In this design the goal is to push a block on the switch to open the door. The orange pegs should be in the down position when this room is entered.

Would work well for the 1 time pushable blocks.

Re: Erock's Dungeon Designs 2014-2017
Here is an update on my Atari 2600 smw hack that is like Zelda 3.
Remember how I wanted to make a Zelda hack named Plextona, well that is what my smw zelda 3 hack will be called. Only instead of being a robot you are just a warrior, but the same story is basically there.
Here is a screen shot of what the levels will look like. I will be recreating many things in smw that are in zelda and will using a lot of my designs in these threads too. There will be no overworld, just a series of dungeons.
In the image below I have some white arrow tiles, these are actually 1 way only blocks. In zelda 3 we have the spikes which create 1 way blocks. I may not have a hookshot in my smw hack but I can have 1 way blocks which behave very similar to the spikes. Anyway there will be more to come.

Here is something.
The pushable block creates pegs in the downward position.

Since all my images were originally hosted with photobucket and photobucket went down with their free service I just zipped all the images together and put it in my drop box.
If anyone is working on a zelda 3 hack. You can use these designs or ideas in your hack.

Re: Erock's Dungeon Designs 2014-2017
Add a F9D Object anywhere in the room (special staircases) and you'll remain on the same layer! It doesnt need to be visible, you can put anothe object on top of it if you want, but in order for jumping puzzles to work you need at least one object of this type in the room!
This is the same outcome that happened with Puzzledude jumping puzzles. If you added his jumping puzzles without an F9D staircase, you would fall in the other layer!
Go try it, I've done some tests and it works but I need to test more because its easy to get stuck in walls with that long distance jump haha good one!

And I figuered this out - now you know why Nintendo put some illogical (unseen) staircases under walls in some rooms.Add a F9D Object anywhere in the room (special staircases) and you'll remain on the same layer!

Re: Erock's Dungeon Designs 2014-2017
OMG facepalm...... I didn't realize this. I knew about the stair cases but just didn't think to use them in this situation.
Because the jump can be kind of long, just use it in a long horizontal room!

Re: Erock's Dungeon Designs 2014-2017
Yeah its another one of those silly Nintendo programming things you have to know when you're hacking this game!
A long horizontal room would be something more logical instead of vertical, I did my tests on a tiny one quarter room and always end up in walls haha

Re: Erock's Dungeon Designs 2014-2017
This isn't a puzzle or design but it was something I found that I thought was neat.
I'm trying to remember how I did this but while editing with hyrule magic and testing a bunch of stuff I saw this and snaped it.
Maybe I had on a cheat or something but anyway the uncle has the gold sword and I was surprised that it actually showed up as so.
