wav2msu not working on Win 7 and XP

Windows 7 user here. Whenever I try to convert a wav file with wav2msu, it gives me an exception:


I also tried it on Win XP inside a virtual machine and the results are the same. What's going on? Do I need to install some dlls or something?

I do not think it has anything to do with your windows version. wav2msu is from the win7 time actually I think. I'm sure it has something to do with your system setup, harddisk partition "M" is e.g. somewhat strange.

some stuff you can try:
- try run as administrator
- try run it from your C harddisk

maybe here's a solution.

Just copied the folder to C:\wav2msu and inputted the command from a command prompt with admin privileges and everything's still the same. I don't think it's about file access, as flac.exe in the same folder works just fine when I convert flac to wav.

What's the recommended method for changing the volume with minimal quality loss, Audacity?

I'd say most people here would use Audacity seeing as it's free and performs all the basic functions you need to edit audio files.

Other, more professional programs like Sound Forge, Wavelab and even Sony Vegas would do the same job.

You can modify the volume directly in msupcm++ using the normalization parameter. The other benefit of that is that it uses RMS levels, which Audacity doesn't, which makes it much easier to get consistent levels throughout your entire soundtrack.
