Update 1/20/2021: I'm getting lots of complaints from YouTube viewers saying "they can't find the small key in Hyrule Castle." You have to kill all the green soldiers, bomb soldiers, and cannon soldiers to get both chests to appear, one of which contains a small key. I even updated the readme Word document to include this hint.
Update 1/31/2021: An improperly staircase in the Ice Palace has now been fixed. Going upstairs from B6 to B5 would actually take you to Ganon's room. Special thanks to FunkieCluckie for the heads up.
A Link to the Islands is a Wind Waker-inspired hack of A Link to the Past. It was originally called Lyra Islands and developed by SePH in 2004-2005, but it wasn't finished. In 2015, I took over the Lyra Islands project with the goal of finishing the game one day. I ended up making completely new overworlds and dungeons in addition to restoring the original LTTP graphics and renaming the game A Link to the Islands.
Expect to see:
- New overworld designs and maps.
- New Dark World design (Areas 43, 45, & 47 ONLY!).
- Hyrule Castle re-located.
- Kakariko Town re-located.
- New Lost Woods-style puzzle.
- Eight new dungeons and one mini-dungeon.
- Ganon gets his own tower in the Dark World.
- New monologue and in-game clues.
- New sprites.
- MSU-1 support.
- ASM hacks added.
- New ending cutscenes.
- Customized ending credits.
A few irreparable problems that popped up during development are documented in the readme included in the zip file. These problems do not affect gameplay and the game can be completed normally.
Unlike Parallel Worlds and Goddess of Wisdom, both of which are notorious for their unforgiving difficulty levels, A Link to the Islands is a game that's fair to everyone. There are no super tricks, stunts, or logic (i.e. masked objects, bomb jumping), while still having a decent level of difficulty. Though, some backtracking may be required at times. Still, you won't ever have to use save states. You will not be frustrated while playing.

Do you use Google Drive or Mega Drive?
Here's the new download link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/141vrgMtD7fA8zpt7wB9thmpFug5vVmSh/view?usp=sharing
Keep in mind, though, that the overworld graphics are buggy and not all houses, caves, and dungeons are easily accessible.
What is Mega drive?, I use neither. I disabled google drive on Windows 10, because I don't use it. I backup all my data off line onto an external hard drive where I have physical access to which I prefer.
I am sorry about that. I am NOT savvy about google drive. I thought I had downloaded from google drive before, but I never know when they might change things and make us jump through hopes.
I tried and it said access denied through my gmail account. Thank you for trying. I will sit here and keep trying when you say so.
I kept trying and now it is downloading. I've never patched an MSU file, so I will have to learn how for the first time. I've patched .ips, ups and bps, but not msu which I've read about regarding suped up audio I think.

Should I email you the ips patch?
Yes, I would prefer a smaller file. I don't want offend anyone who works really hard on MSU though.

Glad to be of assistance. Keep in mind, though, that the overworld graphics are buggy and need to be fixed. Not all houses, caves, and dungeons will be easily accessible because of this. The naming screen is also broken.
The download link includes a MSU-1 soundpack.

It's all good.

The ips patch already has MSU-1 enabled. You just need to put the patched rom file and the msu-1 audio files in the same folder, and all of them should have the same name.
OK, I see. Don't worry about it I will just download and patch. But the programs I have are:
lips 1.02 IPS Patcher "Lunar IPS.exe"
and
Floating v1.31 IPS Patcher
I assume that you mean I can just use?:
lips 1.02 IPS Patcher "Lunar IPS.exe"
And of coarse most patches patch to U(!) without a header which is likely stated in the doc. Anyways, again I am sorry, and thank you for being so cool.

Wow great!, Thank you!
Access Denied again with google drive, LOL. Ha haaaaa!
OK, it's connecting again. LOL. And now I have it.

Yes, you can use Lunar IPS.
Great that tells me I don't have to worry about a patch working without MSU-1 then. Thank you for holding my hand. I don't mean to be so needy. I should have just bit the bullet. I really didn't mean to flood this thread with comments.
I've been playing it for a while and it doesn't work in ZSNES version 1.51 well for me which is not a problem, because it works in "snes9x-1.60-win32-x64".
The menu screen as I remember you were requesting how to fix is messed up of coarse, but I blindly made a save as I have seen before in another hack and got through to play. I am in the Castle having fun playing along.

I got to the point where I think I need the bow or the rock gloves or the fire block red staff or the hammer. I am not sure where to go from here, but we know you have a lot of work to do.
Like I said, the overworld graphics are bugged like hell and need to be fixed. Because of this, not every house, cave, and dungeon is easily accessible.
New download link (with file selection/naming screen fixed):
https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ai3idpRXoXu17XRkFnWX8NXoEnZG?e=9mXy3x
Note: You must patch to a US rom with no header. You need a UPS patcher. MSU-1 is already enabled, so no further instructions needed.

Thank You very much for access to the BETA.

I don't think you made the UPS patch correctly. The recent ups file gives you a "failed" message no matter which original rom you use (US with/without header, EU with/without header, JP with/without header).
I uploaded a new UPS patch for beta version 2.0. Check it out, and patch it to a US rom with no header (should be 1.048KB).
I tested it again. Same fail result.
You are probably not using the correct original rom, since it does not have 1.048KB, the original US non headered rom has 1.024KB and has the CRC32: 777AAC2F. And when you patch the ups to this rom, the result is no operation, since the patcher concluded that the original rom is incompatible with the patch.

Oooooooooooooops, it turns out the original rom I was using the entire time had an incorrect checksum. Thanks for the heads up. I downloaded an original US rom that has 1,048,576 bytes (or 1,024 KB) and the CRC32 777AAC2F checksum, and I used it to create a new UPS patch. I then edited the readme file to make note of the new patching requirements, and I tested the UPS patch using a fresh US rom with the correct file size and checksum listed above to make sure it works correctly before re-uploading it to the cloud drive.
Try patching the UPS file again (again, the download link remains unchanged; I simply overwrote the old zip file with the new one).
Nice. Works now. Like said, you had the 1.048KB rom and you thought it was the original. It happens.
I didn't know this about the boss called Trinexx all these years. That after an ice head or fire head is stunned that they can be damaged with the sword, then fight the snake like part of it last of coarse.
I say this because:
I say this because:
- Spoiler:
- I only have two bottles and I used every firerod and icerod strike I had with save states from those two bottles and my already full magic meter and couldn't go further, but now I know something that would have saved me a lot of time in the past with this boss.
