CHD support MSU? Empty CHD support MSU?

Post by Pee wee Wed 13 Oct 2021 - 23:22

Hi guys,

I would like to know if the usage of CHD files is allow instead of a PCM files. The CHD format has several advantages for over bin/cue files. Overall, I think CHD support would be a great addition to MSU-1, MSU-MD & MD+.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

CHD support MSU? Empty Re: CHD support MSU?

CHD would only work on emulators. It's a compressed format, and normally flash carts wouldn't have the horsepower to decompress any kind of data on-the-fly.

It works on MiSTer for MSU-MD as that uses standard CUE files, but it's not viable for MSU1 or MD+. MSU1 PCM files have loop information hardcoded in them that would be lost if it was possible to convert them to CHD, and MD+ CUE files have the loop information stored inside them. The loop commands aren't standard and would also be lost during the conversion.

The general rule for flash carts is that any kind of compression format will not work and it'll be emulation only.
