Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars
Patch
Mario RPG patch by Conn (updated December 2023)

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Yoshi race glitch that freezes the game has been fixed. However, the PCM sets need to be updated to truly fix it. You need both PCM-16 to be replaced with a new version and PCM-127 to be added. The patch zip file comes with replacement music if you need to update something you already downloaded. Each PCM set below has been updated to include the new tracks as well.
Known Glitch - A few emulators will freeze after getting an Invincibility Star (like the one you get in the stage Bandit's Way). If this is the case, remove PCM-8 from your folder and it will play the original soundtrack and not freeze up. I can confirm Nintendo Wii emulators will cause the freeze and most Wii U ones.
Known Glitch - There are slight music errors with the dream sequence in Monstro Town and Nimbus Town. It is very minor and does not distract much from the experience.

Sidenote: The “Happy Parade” track that plays at the end is done by Purple¹²²²¹¹⁹. The switch version is a third of the length and arranged very differently, it was not going to work on the SNES version.

SIDENOTE: I would not recommend this PCM set anymore as it is outdated and the newer sets have better music in my opinion. However, this set does have a large amount of different artists that maybe you will like if you wanted to take a look at it.

100% understand with you on that :-D
Hey everyone, so I noticed a glitch if you are playing on the wii version of snes9x that plays msu-1 games. While playing on the wii emulator, when you pick up a powerstar the game crashes. I tested this on the snes9x 1.55 for pc and bsnes for pc and both of these does not make the game crash. I don't know if the crash will happen or not on other emulators, did not test it, but for the most part, the majority of you will be able to play this game without a crash.
There is a fix to not let the game crash however, it is simple, just remove PCM-8 and let the game play the default power star jingle. In all honesty, I also meant to release this game without PCM-8 anyway. PCM-8 actually plays the original soundtrack to the power star jingle, It was a PCM I made as a place holder to test if the game will play all the tracks correctly. In the end, I never did find a power star jingle that sounds the same as the one used in Mario RPG since this game's power star sounds a little different than other mario games do so I just thought for this 7 second jingle the default song will do just fine.
As of 11/14/2018, I fix the download to not have PCM-8 in it, so anyone that downloaded the PCM files after this date does not need to worry about a thing. If you downloaded this game before 11/14/2018, I suggest you remove PCM-8 even if you don't play on a wii because you don't need it anyway. And if you do play on a mod wii, you do need to remove PCM-8.
If anyone finds another glitch or bug let me know and we will find a solution. Thank you.

Good that you noticed, this probably also made issues in sd2snes (if sa1-msu1 compatibility is maintained one day that is).
First, thanks for including some of my music. I'm currently streaming this, and I added to some of the pack using my own tracks as well.
I noticed that if you do the dream sequence in Nimbus land, the music won't resume. I thought I'd give you a heads up, Judgment.

I wait for j's evaluation (and savestate) to determine whether this is a bug. Which music does not resume? If it is one of the less important themes it might help to simply remove it from the pcm set and let the spc fallback take care of it?
The dream sequence usually doesn't have music, so it fades out when you start it. It's supposed to fade back in after you wake up, however it actually stops all music and won't resume any track, even if you leave the stage, so removing the track isn't exactly feasible. =p I'm also using Snes9x 1.55, if that helps.
mmh, that's odd... J surely tested the complete game before releasing and would have found this severe bug for sure. He played bsnes, but there shouldn't be a difference. Do you use cheats or something?
Ah well, we need to wait for J to answer I guess. I do not know the game at all. I only hacked the code with bsnes savestates provided by J - snes9x doesn't have a debugger so I can't do anything now.

Do you happen to have a saveslot (srm, not freeze state) before this bug happens? This I could load with bsnes and check.
Oh wow, i never knew this dream sequence was in the game, i thought i did deep check of the whole game. I will test this glitch out sunday night and send a snapshot and srm to conn. Thanks for finding it. Also, another known bug in the game is gaining a star piece jingle after the axem rangers fight cuts out and i remember another area that gets a start piece also had problems. However, they only had problems if the PCM file is present, and if you have it play from the original sound track, the game worls fine. Since i could not find a remix of the star piece jingle that i liked enough i wanted to use, i decided not to ask Conn to fix it because i had no plans to make a 5 second track for it anyways. I dont know if you planned on making star jingle track or not but we will have to fix that too if you did. If not, then i guess we are ok.
Also, to anyone reading, psynergist is making new music and PCM files for the game that are really good, and unlike me that made PCM off other youtubers videos, this is his music he is making, which makes it even more awesome. we have been talking on his youtube channel that when he is finished and releases his work im going to be changing some of my tracks with his because they are good and needed. His standard monster fight is much better than anything i could find myself so that track alone is going to make my existing PCM tracks better, so come back latter and redownload when we fix this bug and have better tracks for you.

Haha, those always buggy thingies, alike allstars bug you found months later
Please leave that star piece jingle as spc fallback to spare my nerves, the patch is complicated enough. And I have little time only nowadays. I hope I can fix that sleeping bug with the savestate then

I completely agree. There is another problem with the star pieces that it has one track to start the begining jingle and one track to be the victory jingle when it is in mario hand. Because each star piece has a different length of loops before mario holds the star, no matter how hard i tried i couldnt get the PCM files to kick in at the right time for every start piece, with two of them having problems they wont play right at all. Basically even if conn fixed it, i still believe this 5 second moment in the game would sound wrong, so its best to just never do it.
Ok Conn, here is the save state and SRM.

This Glitch/Bug is crazy and inconsistent. The good news is if the music cuts out, leaving Nimbus Land restores it like nothing happened. Also, the majority of times the dream sequence does not make the game music stop. And lastly, it is a very minor part of the game, so if you can not fix it I think everyone is going to be fine because this one seems really tricky. Also my coins are maxed out so you wont run out of coins trying to figure things out. This Glitch only happens when PCM files are in and you repeat the dream sequence multiple times in a row.
What is suppose to happen is mario accepts staying, accepts having the extra comfort stay, the music cuts out while he sleeps, a random event happens, Mario wakes up and music comes back in.
This is what the PCM files included do. The majority of the time the music keeps playing even when Mario falls asleep and a minority of the time the music will stop completely. It is completely random if things function correctly or not. Even using save states I will get different results each time I reload a save state. What dream sequence shows up does not seem to matter because I have had different results with the same dream sequence playing out.
I tested this many times, got many different results, but the majority of the time I have the music stop after the fourth dream sequence I do. The majority of the time the music plays straight through everything the first two, which is incorrect, the third time seems to do everything correct, and the forth time has the music crash completely. However, I have had the music stop completely after any amount of times between 2-5 repeated attempts. I have tested this thing out for over 30 minutes straight in hopes to find a consist pattern of mistakes and I can not find one
Good Luck with this one. And if you can not get it Conn, I think everything will be fine as is. It is not like the game is completely crashing or anything. I sure hope this does not get complicated.

Oh wow... I love random bugs
I'll look into it and tell more when I had time to.
Thanks!

Oh wow, look what can of worms I managed to open. >.> Hope this either gets resolved quickly and easily, or that it's not a big deal to most if it doesn't.
Interesting that it's seemingly random when it decides to have the music stop.

Ok I think I already fixed it:
http://bszelda.zeldalegends.net/stuff/Con/smrpg_msu.zip
The reason is that when Toad talks to you in one of the random dream sequences, the music fades out, but won't fade in again. I disabled the fade out this way:
It's a bit experimental but there's a high chance this works. First I check at 7e0330 whether the track is $32, pcm 50 (Nimbus land track, all other tracks/locations are not affected by this addiditional code.
Then I noticed that in the dream sequence 7e0240 is $00, while in other areas of this cloud land it is always a value.
So the fade is disabled in case these 2 conditions match. If there are no other such conditions (like track pcm-50 is played elsewhere and this dream screen 7e0240 gets 00 there as well) we are safe

Hey Conn, so I tested the new patch and it is better but still have the previously mentioned bugs. So before the music will cut out by repeating the dream sequence about 2-5 times, but with the new patch you made, it takes about 6 times of repeating to get a audio cut out that wont start back up again (but it is not always six times, that just seems to be the average attempts that I found to trigger the bug). Also it is not one particular dream sequence that causes it so I do not know why repeating it several times causes it or how it is caused.
The point of the dream sequence is just to gamble your coins for a chance to get two red essence from toad. Odds are the player will get the event where toad gives red essence before the music cuts out by too many repeats, so if you do not desire to invest more time into this rom hack, I honestly would be ok and I think the community would be to. In fact, some people will play this whole game not even knowing this is a thing despite beating this game a dozen times (like me) and will never encounter this problem. Also, leaving Nimbus Town fixes the fade out as well and restores the music like normal. I will let you decide if it is worth getting to the bottom of this bug, and seriously, no pressure if you do not have that time to invest. Thank you Conn.

try again:
Patch by Conn for Mario RPG (update 8th Jan 2019, dream sequence fixed,2nd)
http://bszelda.zeldalegends.net/stuff/Con/smrpg_msu.zip
I now disabled fading completely in that dreamhouse (02,00,04 at $0240):
I tested and before it partially faded to lower value, that's why it stopped at a time. Now it seems to work (so far I tested - 30 times or so.).

Thanks so much Conn, i could tell this bug was going to be an obnoxious one.

Took me long enough, but I finally got around to uploading this. I wasn't happy with some of the audio levels in the tracks, so I had to boost them, then find the loop point again, then rerender as .pcm. But, we're good!
Hope you enjoy this version of Mario RPG!
Just replace the existing .pcm's in the pack with these, and you'll be golden.

Ok, just updated original post. And thank you for adding to this project, i am really excited to try out these PCM tracks. Right now i have the first video of your stream as the showcase video, if you ever want me to change that just give me a heads up.
Also, i am going to be updating my PCM tracks to feature a few of thepsynergist pcm tracks. I am not going to use every new one that he made because i really enjoy the ones i made, however, there is some i really really liked better, and excited to make a few updates on mine. We will always have both playlists available so you guys can check out which one you like best.
