Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
Yes as the title states this is exactly what this is.
The last person who did the msu-1 hack for mega man x2.
Almost all of the .pcm files were way too loud and buzzed like mad in snes9x.
I have been working on this since May but its been a off and on project.
Since work and family always came first, this went WAY back on the back burner of the stove.
The hack is almost done but I need to replace a few more tracks with lower volumes.
I may release it before christmas day or towards the end of december.
About 80% of the music files belong to: Krzysztof Słowikowski.
Check him out on band camp and buy his sound tracks if you like.

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
I believe they were already fixed. Originally they were all crazy loud to work on sd2snes, or at least i think that is the story, but recently the rom hackers went back and fixed them all i believe. Could be wrong though.

Well they were still crazy loud when i downloaded it last feburary of 2018.
The only reason why I did that, all of the songs were so damn buzzy crackly in bsnes and the new version of snes9x v1.56.
I went ahead and readjusted the volumes quite abit and add on some bit of MMX5 to it.
Most people swear by mmx5 others like X2 along with X5. >_>
Drop me a pm and I will send you something, hell if the original hackers are here.
Share it with them as well I left proper credits and respect to where they belong.

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
It could possibly still be too loud, i haven't played msu-1 x2 yet so can't say for sure. One thing i do know is the topic that says "fixing too loud for good" has a good version of x1 where the download page doesn't. Some of these first done msu-1 have loud audio because it had something to do with the sd2snes. Try the links there.

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
Oh I must have missed that qwerty uploaded some pcm sets there. I added all (except zelda - those I added on my own server) to Mega Man X,X2,X3, SOM and SuperMetroid, I could find in that thread.
However, I lost the overview. DarkShock's work was done when we needed 2 different patches (emulator and sd2snes, because sd2snes didn't have boost at that time). So in X2 and X3 I wrote to the other patches "Unknown which patch should be used for these". Maybe somebody can shed light here.

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
With properly leveled PCM files, the "SD2SNES" version of the patch is the correct one in all instances. This "version 2.0" is a regression in this regard. If the PCM files need fixing, then fix them, we don't need these volume adjustment patches anymore.

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
The emulator version adjusts the volume to 60 if I am right, and the sd2snes version to ff, so the latter should be it then.the "emulator" version of the patch is the correct one in all instances
I correct that then. Thanks qwerty

Wait, yes you're right. It's been so long since I've had to deal with that mess that I had it backwards.

Lol, I also had to think twice, it's really confusing. Maybe hopefully ds updates his patch sets one day.

And that's why I hate seeing things like this come around and brink back all of the confusion all over again

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
I also have enough confusion. I uploaded the patches for X1,X2,X3 and super metroid on my bszelda server and deleted the emulator version in the patch files. (Database updated for these 4 patches - SOM only had a FF version so nothing done here).
Hope this won't come up anymore.
If DS returns one day and updates his packages himself, I happily use his links again.

Nice. I can delete that emulator patch PCM set now.

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
I am doing the X2 PCM set and we also do not have a PCM assigned to Doctor Light for X2. We have the same problem for X3 where doctor light does not exist for the PCM set for that game as well. Is there a way to fix those?
Also, because this game hack is not set up to have fallback, having a missing PCM makes the game not play music at all and be silent, making me think that I am correct that in X2 and X3 there is no PCM set for Doctor Light because it is playing the original theme instead of silence

Actually, I just test X1 as well, and that one even though a PCM track is made it does not upload. So all three Mega Man X games is not uploading Doctor Light Theme at the moment

Unfortunately, I do not know any MMX rom at all, worse, every coder has his own hacking style, and I am not very keen to mix into DS patches. The best chance is that you contact DS and report this bug directly to him.
But in this X play it seems to work: (if this is the theme you mean):
https://youtu.be/W2DagzbYdck?t=586
Also X2 plays it in this msu gameplay:
https://youtu.be/ePaZgHMAC4w?t=1003
And this msu play suggests Dr.light theme is played correctly also in MMX3:
https://youtu.be/PNMtI1Nsbvg?t=3516
I can't tell whether this is spc/msu however. But at least it shouldn't be silence.

Sorry, i was a little unclear. The doctor light themes are set to spc and are incapable of playing a PCM track, but for all other songs in the game that are not doctor light theme, they can not play spc. Either the PCM plays or it is silent. That's makes me think that either the Doctor Light theme was missed or intentionally set to be SPC. I think i will send a message to DS, and in the end, if we cant have doctor light theme play MSU it will be ok, its a small part of the game.

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
I looked into it at one point, the Doctor Light theme has weird issues where the music is tied into some of the sound effects, and if you replace the music, it messes up the SFX. I wasn't able to find a solution at the time.
@Conn all 3 of those videos show SPC fallback for the Doctor Light theme. The song plays, but it's not PCM.

Yeah, dark shock just message me and said it was very confusing and weird compaired to all the other tracks. I am certian it would be fine to leave out

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
We just had 2 new PCM packs created this week, highlighting exactly why changing the code to change the volume level was a bad idea, because now people don't know which volume level to use on their packs, and we're getting complaints from end users who are using correctly normalized audio files with the "v2.0" patch and complaining they are too quiet. It's really unfortunate that this patch made it up on RHDN, and has been downloaded 281 times as of this post. That's 281 users that are going to have issues with correctly normalized PCM files. Sorry if I'm coming off as a jerk here, it's just really frustrating for this to be coming up again after all the work that was put in to eliminate the issue. In the future, if you have volume level problems with an MSU-1 pack, fix the audio files, or ask for help from somebody else to do it. MSU-1 code should always use the full volume range from $00-FF.

@qwertymodo, This the only exception and no need to jump the gun. This is why Conn removed the old X2 $60 volume base patches for this reason. Conn, Kurrono’s, and my patches always use $FF as standard.
We cannot control everyone downloading our patches from outside sources that have old, obsolete code (romhacking.net or those Brazilian hosts).

Re: Mega Man X2 MSU-1 v2.0
Yes these are ancient relicts that haunts us now. The only way is to inform DS to remove his #$60 patches from the romhacking source as well to erradicate this issue. Other than that nothing we can do (removing the 60 patch was the only option we could do on our side here).
