Actually this whole me getting Zack his Outlands game on his own cart is a rather interesting story so stay tuned.
And yes I should probably e-mail another cartoon. I could probably use the same one since it was years ago. LOL
erock wrote:Funny that you e-mailed today. To make your cart I had to order a copy of NES Open Golf and it just came in the mail today. See you have to have a cart with the same mapper as Zelda. By mapper, I mean the same electronic chip board. Only a few games have that same mapper and NES Open Golf is one of them. So Open Golf will have to be
sacrificed to make Outlands .Also it has the battery in it so you will be able to save your game!
Don't give me feedback yet. I want to make sure its all a done deal first. I'm going to e-mail the guy tonight and we will see how it goes.
I'll update you when I get more info.
Take care.

The whole purpose of this puzzle is that if you hit the mole you can't solve the puzzle so you have to think/find a different way. Hitting the mole looks like it would be the quick and easy solution but its not.

zack wrote:Hi again! [Regarding the avoid the mole puzzle.] I like this puzzle. I've thought in the past about "avoid the bottle" for hookshot or boots-crash scenarios, and I like this variation as well. As usual, you've combined a few pieces of required knowledge into a single puzzle. Not only do you have to crash with boots, but you must do so while wearing the cape. I can imagine placing this somewhere that looks like part of a greater room, so it appears not to be an available path. Link's gotta think every step of the way!
I still haven't received the Outlands cartridge you ordered. It would be fun to have, and I'm sure it would inspire me to remember the cool things I created years ago. =) I won't be crushed if I don't receive it, but I thought you should know it never came.

erock wrote:How ironic that you e-mailed me. I was going to e-mail you today about the Outlands cart. The honest to God truth is that I ordered and paid in full for that cartridge from a legit business guy who runs this website. Yeah, you can even order one for yourself.
Here is the website.
http://nesreproductions.com/
I paid $31 dollars with paypal for your cart and the seller said that he shipped it to your address.
What I need from you is to verify that your address is correct. Are you sure there are no typos in there.
Zack
[address]
U.S.A.
I also spent a lot of time creating a custom label for your cart too. You’ll have to see it when you get it. I put a lot of work and time into this present for you and I’m very upset that it didn’t work out. I’m going to have to contract the seller and see what we can work out.
Now on to your feedback, first of all thanks for some feedback. I do have to say though some of that older stuff that I send you is pretty neat. You might want to check it out. Also is there any better way that I should organize these submissions when I send them to you. Are pictures OK, are videos better. I tried to give you the in game screen shot and the Hyrule Magic screen shot so you know exactly what it looks like. A lot of these puzzles have to be pixel perfect, everything has to be in an exact location for it to work.
On a positive note, I’m getting better at understanding the code in the game. For instance I was playing around with Home Alone, don’t ask why with an in game hex editor. By using the knowledge that Reshaper taught me, I was able to find the values which control the clock in the game. I also found the value that adds points to your score. I found out how to make the player invincible by just trial and error. This is my greatest accomplishment yet. This is the first time that I’ve ever done this, it was like I was making a discovery. Look at the attachment file for a screen shot.
Anyway, you have to trust me with some of that Zelda code. It is not a matter of if I will understand it, it’s a matter of when. I’ve always planned on learning ASM, but it’s been an uphill process. One day I’ll get it.
Take care.

I don't doubt that you ordered it. Also, I've heard of that website several times before -- it's what everyone uses to get ROMs on cartridges.
Here is the website.
"I paid $31 dollars with paypal for your cart and the seller said that he shipped it to your address."
I didn't realize you were using a website and spending a lot of money -- I thought you said you had a friend that does this. That's really nice of you and I would definitely enjoy such a gift. =)
"What I need from you is to verify that your address is correct. Are you sure there are no typos in there."
Absolutely certain! It might've gotten lost in the mail. Maybe you can use a tracking number to see its status. I wonder if someone's playing this copy right now, amazed that they found "a lost, rare Zelda game"...
"I also spent a lot of time creating a custom label for your cart too. You’ll have to see it when you get it. I put a lot of work and time into this present for you and I’m very upset that it didn’t work out. I’m going to have to contract the seller and see what we can work out."
I figured the business created the label for you. Maybe that's an "extra money" option.
"Now on to your feedback, first of all thanks for some feedback. I do have to say though some of that older stuff that I send you is real real good. You might want to check it out."
I will, in time. Sorry I'm so preoccupied!
"Also is there any better way that I should organize these submissions when I send them to you. Are pictures OK, are videos better. I usually like pictures better because I can paste them right into my organized documents. Videos are good only when there are several steps involved.
"Now, I know it’s a little weird having Link go through the spikes with the hookshot and all but I was thinking maybe just put those puzzles near the end of the game."
I recently noticed that when Link hookshots over shallow water, he hits the water as he passes. Kind of inconsistent with these spikes, lol! I'll still probably make this situation, but even if I don't, it's good to know so that I don't accidentally provide a shortcut in some other kind of puzzle.
"Like in the last few dungeons, or just group all of those types of puzzles in one dungeon and have that as like the theme or something. Who knows."
I'm still not sure if I'm going to make a Challenge Dungeon, but these would be great content for it!
"On a positive note, I’m getting better at understanding the code in the game. For instance I was playing around with Home Alone, don’t ask why with an in game hex editor. I remember what it was like to make discoveries in the first Zelda game, back when hacking seemed an impossible dream. As you've seen, patience brings great things!

We'll see -- you'll have to prove yourself! I may still have Reshaper tackle the hardest coding. Perhaps you could take on some of the easier ASM so that he wouldn't have to do everything. Never know what the future holds!

Why was the package returned as "Moved". Also, I can't ship packages across the US border with the "To" name simply being "Zach". US security will flag it, and seize the package!! I need full name!

All I know is that your first name is Zack, that's it. But the seller couldn't send the package just marked Zack because of a shipping last name law from Canada.
I can't believe all this because of a stupid last name.
You only gave me your address that that's why you didn't get your Zelda Outlands cart.

for an extra challenge make the blue pegs down when you first enter. Also this can be broken with the red brick shot over the block trick. To avoid this maybe turn the entire design 90 degrees.
erock wrote:Got another one. I actually like this one. This is a good one.
And I got another really really really good idea I just need to make it in Hyrule Magic. It takes an idea already used in Zelda 3 but then puts a nice little twist to it and makes it priceless!
1. walk in room
2. hookshot to blue pegs
3.hit peg switch
4. hookshot to orange pegs
5.get chest
6. hit peg switch
7. hookshot to blue peg and you are done with the room

Here is a design that is actually kind of like a loop in a room. I put the statues there because of the red brick shot over the wall trick.
This can be fixed with no statues if the whole design is rotated 90 degrees. If you want to see the whole image because this will probably be cut off in some way due to the width of the forum just right click on image and click view.

Here is a design a posted in my other thread. I'm posting it again because I came up with it a long time ago.
I actually talked with Zack about the spikes and hookshot passage ability and it said that it seemed weird because Nintendo never intended it to happen like this. So I offered to make a possible replacement graphic for the spikes and turn them into small bumpers.
The small bumpers wouldn't inflict damage on you and wouldn't bounce you anywhere. The graphic would just exist to try to be a better replacement for the spikes.
In my personal opinion I don't really mind the spike graphic but it might make more sense to use another graphic. I actually drew this mini bumper graphic all by myself using the big bumper as a model.

This is an extra special post because at the time that I made this one it was one of my best block puzzle designs.
For years I had been trying to come up with interesting block puzzles for the hack and had always come up short.
And to be honest I still think its hard to come up with block puzzles. Because of their limited mobility its hard to do stuff with them.
So this one day after completing a bunch of homework I decided to set aside some time to make a block puzzle.
I gave myself a special rule too. The rule was that I cannot look away from my drawing paper until I come up with a good block puzzle idea.
And so I got out a sheet of blank paper and got out my pencil and got to work just staring at the paper until I came up with something.
So some time went by and I had nothing. Then I thought "what patterns can I make with these blocks". So I started drawing zig zag patterns. You can push those blocks and it also makes a pattern.
After some more time went by, I wanted to take a break and do something else. I wanted to look away from my paper, but I didn't want to break my own rule and so I refocused my eyes back on my paper and literally forced out this idea!
I took two of those zig zag patterns and let them converge into one. Above where they met I placed a chest. PERFECT! I also placed two other blocks in the back as fake outs.
And when I was done making this I was very proud of myself. This is the result.
Interestingly it reminds me of like a person who has no head.
