Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers :: Comments
Re: Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
Thanks a lot for fixing them! I'll wait until the links are updated since I am not sure which version this patch is for. I don't think Conn's patch works either.Relikk wrote:Apologies, please use this patch instead on a fresh ROM. I'll update the audio packs with the correct patch. Entirely my fault.

ROM version? Mine is for USA Rev 1. It's a BPS patch as well which doesn't allow you to patch the wrong ROM.
Audio pack links are now updated with the correct patch included.
I meant soundtrack version, since I am trying to make one of each. Thanks again, downloading now.
The soundtracks aren't exclusive to any patches. Mine are optimised for the patch included with them, but you can use them with Conn's patch as well. You don't need to re-download them as nothing changed inside the ZIP file except for the patch that I linked to a little earlier.
Alright. They all work now, except for Conn's patch. Thanks again.Relikk wrote:The soundtracks aren't exclusive to any patches. No worries. I'll have a look at Conn's patch and let you know.
Conn's patch works with the original USA ROM and not the revision, it seems.
Ahhhh, alright. Thank you!!Relikk wrote:Conn's patch works with the original USA ROM and not the revision, it seems.
Patch is updated and contains also a version for rev1 now (NTSC folder).
Clear browser history before redownloading, patches are now in bps format to prevent malpatching

Relikk, I suggest leaving this pack fixed too, in case more people are interested.
Hi @relikk @Conn
I've been following this thread. great job on all the MSU1 work. I'm a sf fan and want to know if any you could create the pcm from the DOS PC version. the remix in the PC version is by far the best imo.

Hey Relikk,
Your correct, I meant the CD version. I've been ripping the tracks to .wav format but I don't know a whole lot about converting them to .pcm and creating an MSU1 version. If you need the .wav tracks, I can probably send to you.

Not, that's okay. I can source them. Give me a day or two to work on them.
I got these finished this morning. You'll have to mix it with another pack as there are no themes for bonus stage etc. in Super Turbo.

@Relikk, Thank you so much for creating this. I cant wait to get this working. I'm having trouble patching the .sfc and .smc (USA ver) rom. I'm using beat to apply the patch but for some reason it keeps failing. I followed direction from romnation and the readme but still no luck.
You do not need the asm, simply apply the bps using flips
https://dl.smwcentral.net/11474/floating.zip
If you nevertheless want to apply the asm (it is the uncompiled source code - bps is compiled), try with xkas (attached).
Open insertasm.bat with an editor and replace the name with the asm name you use and the rom name, then run the bat

@Conn thank you! I was able to get it working but want to share the details. I used flips to patch the rom, your patch v5 Rev1 in the NTSC folder did not work for me. For what ever reason, I keep getting an error saying I have the wrong version of sf. I tired the US version of the .smc and .sfc and even the PAL version but could not get it to patch. Only the ssf2_msu.bps worked. I didn't bother with the PAL folder. Also, I couldn't get the rom to patch either with Relikks patch however I'm happy with the working version (it has the cross fade). @Relikk you have no idea what you have just release. SFF2 MSDOS cd rom version is probably one of the most overlooked version of sf because it was release on MSDOS and during a time when that game wasn't so popular. Everyone was into the alpha and vs series during the time when this game was release. Only the most die-hards knew about the AWESOME MUSIC from this version. I believe CAPCOM themselves did not remix the music but was handled by EUROCOM. You have to give props to Neil Baldwin and Steve Duckworth for the sound work they did on this game. Utter masterpiece of a remix. Every track even the ending credit beautifully remixed. The music adds so much to the game. @Conn and @Relikk thank you for keeping this game alive. Now if we can just restore the walk back frame animation for Ryu/ Ken and the 3rd elephant in Dhalsim stage, we would have the definitive omega ultra turbo version. Sorry I'm asking for too much.
The vast majority of patches on Zeldix use ROMs from the "No-Intro" set as a base, and they're headerless. Your ROMs probably contain headers and that shifts the code slightly which makes the patch incompatible. I'd suggest sourcing a No-Intro set if you plan on availing yourself of any more MSU1 patches.
The base ROM needed for this patch (Super Street Fighter II (USA).sfc) has a CRC-32 value of f16d5ce9. You can use this drag and drop website to see what the CRC value of your ROM is...

That means you do have the normal version and not the rev1. I know it is hard to find, but it is there in the internet somewhere.Only the ssf2_msu.bps worked.
I don't know what was fixed in Rev1, but usually it is not much difference. E.g., in Zelda, NES rev1 is only an annoying red message to not remove the cartridge while saving or so.
Conn wrote:That means you do have the normal version and not the rev1.
I forgot about the Rev. 1/Rev. A, sorry. The CRC-32 value for that is 3d4bc494.
@chikawong I get now what you were doing wrong. There exist various versions of some games, e.g. the company released a game and bugs are found. Then they usually release an updated rom (rev1), sometimes even a second (rev2).
You usually find both roms in the internet but you need to apply the corresponding patch on the corresponding rom. It's not possible to apply the rev1 patch on the initially released rom of course.
So if ssf2_msu.bps applies successful you had the initial release rom, and MSU works on that without needing to apply the asm (and not rev1 patch which isn't possible)
