My pleasure! The NES Metroid/Zero Mission is my favorite music of the series. I was really thrilled for this project
I tried using your save state but it does not work (using bsnes+ v073+3a). Is this the bsnes that still requires the XML file? If so, can you PM that file to me.JUD6MENT wrote:I found another bug. In this save state, the music changes for the next 3 rooms and then changes back to the right track. The track should not change at all to begin with. If you want to take a look here you go.

I understand if you can not do anything about these because you did not make the rom patch, but if you are interested in taking a look there is a link. So far both these bugs are not breaking the game if they are un-fixable.

I do not have a XML file for bsnes, do you have a download link for the latest bsnes-plus version? Maybe I will just download the newest emulator and make a new save state for you
Below is a link for the version that I currently use to debug.JUD6MENT wrote:I do not have a XML file for bsnes, do you have a download link for the latest bsnes-plus version? Maybe I will just download the newest emulator and make a new save state for you

This should do it. The first state is before the boss room, and the second state is a room where music should not change, and it changes in the next 3 rooms of state number 2.
@JUD6MENT Yup, I remember this part of the game now. The original SFC version of ProjectXVIII's patch does the same thing. It switches between three tracks as well. I recall attempting to prevent this from happening but it ended up breaking other parts of the game. If memory serves me, it broke the fight with Kraid; this just ended up having me leave it alone. Perhaps, now that I had a long break with this weird patch, I can give it another try. No promises, though.
Msu always resembles the original behaviour. If the retroid patch is buggy at this place it might be better to inform the author of this patch rather trying to fix it with the msu patch... So if he will fix it, it automatically gets fixed in the msu.
If you try to fix the msu nevertheless, pev, my usual solution for such stuff is to save the track written to 2004 at a free ram. Those 3 tracks are played in a specific (hopefully) unique order. So let's say track 1 is played, followed by track 2 and 3. So you can compare the free ram if track 1 is played and track 2 about to play to skip it (and track 3 as well). But of course I do not know whether this works here

@Conn I recall trying something like this too. It worked but then it caused issues in other parts of the game (mostly the rooms where you get the power ups and Kraid boss affected). But back then, I was already frustrated with the code porting and merging of patches by then. I have a fresh mind now, so when a moment arises where this can be tackled, I will.Conn wrote:my usual solution for such stuff is to save the track written to 2004 at a free ram. Other thing I could try is see if there is a way in RAM to tell when Samus is in this room and force MSU to just play the one track JUD6MENT says should play. From my understanding, this is the only room that is buggy.
For a single room you can try
7E:079B - 7E:079C Current room mdb (Room ID in SMILE)
Note: 2 bytes= 16 bit

@Conn Hmm, it is possible, given the information you just posted, but I am still not sure how JUD6MENT wants the music to play.
@JUD6MENT
SaveState#1 Do you want:
a) Brinstar music keeps playing in mini-Boss room? (ie, no playing of room or boss theme?).
SaveState#2 Do you want:
a) Same Brinstar/Kraid music plays when going into other room. Project's patch here
has this room area treated like an item room (hence, the different track).
Am I understanding this clearly?

OR
b) Brinstar music switch to room theme, then mini-boss theme, then back to Brinstar when mini-boss is defeated?SaveState#2 Do you want:

State #1 sounds like B is a good choice. The awkward part I feel like is once the boss fight start Tourian theme plays for like 4 seconds and then it changes to the boss fight music, if we can cut out that 4 second Tourian theme that would sound better in my opinion. (Also just a heads up it is actually Kraid's Hideout theme that is playing at the beginning of both those save states and not Brinstar, not that this information is important).
For state number two that is correct, it should not change theme at all when enter this location and it is not an item room.
If it helps, this is the playthrough of the room of the second save state, except it is the NES version of metroid and it shows the room theme does not change when entering.

Honestly though, if it is really difficult to fix the hack will still be great. These are not huge game areas of importance in the game and will be ok if not fixable, but thanks for taking a look into it and hope it goes well.

Just asking for a heads up whether you had time to test my fixes and they do the job?

Sorry i have been in finals week for school, but i will give it a try when i wake up in the morning and see. Thanks Conn
no worries, just asking because there are so many things parallel right now (ff5,mq, turtles, dkc sam miller) that I simply want some stuff off-mind )
Retroid patch .rar file appears to be damaged, and won't unpack. Possible to reupload?
for me it works with no problems... have you tried with 7zip? If you can't get access to the files, let me know, I'll attach it as zip then.

I got it to work. Maybe re-download the patch and try again or maybe get 7 zip like conn suggeted. 7 zip is free.

Ok, so it is uploading music correctly and your fix is good to go Conn. I just noticed my PCM pack has the wrong track 16 so I got to fix that, I am going to be re-uploading my PCM packs soon, but the patch is working correctly, thank you for your work

Ok, I fixed my track number 16 if you want to switch out this link with my first link.
Thanks again Conn and Pev for fixing the small mistakes. Sorry it took me a few days to give it a test, school is just super busy for me at the moment, but now you can check this one off the list Conn. Good luck with your other projects.

@JUD6MENT Thanks for the update. Your new link is posted. The patch will be updated shortly as well.
@Conn The v2 patch link changed (will upload shortly). Do not forget about J's link as well.
