Have you heard of the new hack BS F-Zero Deluxe?
It has EVERY SINGLE TRACK from the F-Zero SNES era.
It needs MSU-1 support this instant!

Good news Wubbzy, Cubear and i are talking about this and we will see. It appeared at first that the patch would work for the bs deluxe as well and that this would be a very quick thing to make. However, in testing and the more i play it, it seems it might take a little more work as i was having wrong tracks load on some stages.
This appears to be an awesome patch, though I do not understand whether there also was a
BS-3 League, from BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2 week 3
BS-4 League, from BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2 week 4
It says in the readme, week1 and week2 were recreated but also the courses of w3&w4 are playable through practice mode.
But honestly I do not know very much about BS F-zero and only read briefly the readme in the hack.

If someone can clear this up, highly appreciated

I am trying to figure it out to. My guess is there was "multiple runs" like they did two different runs on two different weeks, then months later they did a new set of runs. I think what we call "ace league" is actually just available practice stages that were easy to recover and what we had before all this rebuilding.
This is a guess of mine, i actually think my guess is wrong, it is just where i am at in the brainstorm process. I am very confused to but excited to have this
It was ages ago (20+ years) when I did some research on bs F Zero:
https://bszelda.zeldalegends.net/fzero.shtml
So as far I can retrace:
there were 4 weeks with timed, alike bszelda, knight, king, queen, ace.
These are covered by that patch.
Then, if you scroll down that bszelda article I wrote, there's a BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2 rom.
What I think... this BS GP 2 rom is alike ALTTP, this one was also streamed via St.Giga but was more or less ALTTP, but not timed. You streamed it via satellite on your device and had it. So maybe BS GP 2 is similar but changed in comparison to original F-Zero?

Ok, got some information. There are indeed 3 f-zero:
- the stock ROM f-zero
- bs f-zero grand Prix 1
- be f-zero grand Prix 2
Information can be found here:
https://mutecity.org/wiki/BS_F-Zero_Grand_Prix
https://mutecity.org/wiki/BS_F-Zero_Grand_Prix_2
https://tcrf.net/BS_F-Zero_Grand_Prix_2
It seems like, unlike usually satellaview games were released in 4 weeks, bs f-zero gp 2 was only 2 weeks. So the deluxe version apparently indeed covers all bs stuff

This is a very good article that explains it well, i figured it out too. My previous statements are kinda right.
So "ace league" is just practice stages and not a.live event for the satelleview. That made it easy to recover and create our previous "bs fzero" which was never truly a live event.
There was two seperate bs fzero runs. The first run being a 4 week event. The next seperate run was a teo week event.
The 4 week event had a gp of five courses but only one new track each, which is track number #5.
The next two events had the new tracks of previous bs events and even more new stages, like Forest and Metal stages.
Ace league is just practice stages and could be played anytime. It was never a real event but is included in the rom hack.
Press L and R on the cart select and go select to switch between 8 karts and the 9 official gp + the 1 unofficial ace league practice.

Should be easy enough. I'll have a beta together at some point today, thanks to existing code being mostly compatible, and as a bonus I'll have support for all different music packs (+ this mod) all contained within one patch. For those of you itching to make music packs already, the track map is as follows:
- track map:
- 01 - Start
02 - Zoom
03 - Lost Life
04 - Opening Theme
05 - Select Time Theme
06 - Big Blue
07 - Ending Theme
08 - Red Canyon I
09 - Fire Field
10 - Silence
11 - White Land I
12 - White Land II
13 - Port Town I
14 - Mute City I
15 - Sand Ocean
16 - Death Wind I
17 - Mute City II
18 - Port Town II
19 - Mute City III
20 - Death Wind II
21 - Red Canyon II
22 - Forest I
23 - Big Blue II
24 - Sand Storm I
25 - Forest II
26 - Silence II
27 - Mute City IV
28 - Forest II
29 - Sand Storm II
30 - Metal Fort I
31 - Metal Fort II
Good plan cubear, the f-zero is a mess somehow, dozens of tracks and then I think I have different patches like one resembles original (same track for I and II) and one giving each a unique track.
So your plan is more elegant, having only one patch and one set with fallback, so people simply can delete a PCM in case they want original resemblance

Ok, I did research into the tracks that upload.
Every new stage has a brand new theme that uploads while playing live (and existing stages had brand new remixes of that stage, similar to msu-1 itself).
However, each stage also had an "offline practice mode" that when played not live would default back to a particular stage theme. These 5 defaults are as follow:
Big blue 2, silence 2, mute city 4 will default as respective songs suggests.
Sandstorm 1 defaults to fire field
Sandstorm 2 defaults to death wind
These 5 are the official defaults by Nintendo for offline practice mode. However, the other 5 stages offline default has never been found or recovered. The developers had this to say when I asked about it:
"we took cues from BS F-Zero 2 Practice, which re-used 5 of the 10 songs from the original game. Forest and Metal Fort re-use the remaining 5 songs, so that each song is used once in the BS-1 and BS-2 Leagues" said by PowerPanda.
They made a decision on the remain default soundtracks as followed.
Forest 1 is defaulting white land 1
Forest 2 is defaulting to white land 2
Forest 3 is defaulting to sand ocean
Metal Fort 1 is defaulting to Red Canyon
Metal Fort 2 is defaulting to Port Town
Cubear's patch will allow the option to upload whatever you want for every single track, or just have 10 stage PCM in and have it all default as described above.
I plan to make 3 different PCM sets as followed.
PCM Set #1 - I choose new music for Forest, Metal Fort, Sandstorm. I will probably pull cool music from F-Zero GX or other F-zero games (I haven't decided on tracks yet).
PCM Set #2 - A basic F-Zero PCM set with all the new stages defaulting back to different songs as described above (tecnically this is my existing F-Zero PCM set already done).
PCM Set #3 - A found a rare gem on the internet. Someone listened to all the new themes from the recovered recordings of the bs f-zero and recreated snes sound fonts of the tracks. This will allow us to actually have recreations of the new Forest, Metal, and Sandstorm stages with their music matching the SNES original soundtrack. This PCM set will have all the original F-zero stages play their SNES original soundtracks while the 3 new stage types play their offical soundtrack in SNES soundfont form.
Here is an example of the third PCM set described. This first video shows what the live music was for forest stage, then the second video is a fan recreation in snes soundfont.

We are test running it now. Not sure how long everything will take but I feel confident before the end of the week (probably much sooner).
This patch is an in-progress work and not fully bugtested.
I've gone through everything in the vanilla rom and tested OK in both GP and practice mode.
It should apply to either the Official release or Deluxe versions. It should play enhanced and normal soundtracks without issue.
In the deluxe version, track fallback goes in this order:
if II, III, IV is missing, try to play I
if I is missing, play the track from the vanilla game that the Deluxe devs have selected.
If that is missing, play SPC version
E: Updated with slight bugfixes (incorrect fallback tracks in deluxe version corrected)

Very, very, very, very last warning. I mean it. You've had more than enough, at this stage and you're still defying what we've said to you in the past about badgering and being impatient. Enough.
wow, that was really fast cubear, only suggestion:
1, mark the ips/asm as 'f-zero deluxe' and credit yourself
2, the romhacking patch has several versions (usa/eur/jp), does the msu patch work on all of these/only usa, and/or do they need to be ported? - or my personal opinion: it's enough to only do the usa
3, feel free to open a new thread in database when done, and I suggest to stuff the original patch from romhacking also into the archive or at least link to it

I would greatly appreciate it if you would stop acting this way. The people making, and maintaining these patches do the most difficult work in making all of this happen and are not being monetarily compensated in any way for their efforts, they do it because they enjoy it.
Your behavior is entitled, and disrespectful towards an increasingly shrinking group of still interested individuals doing the most difficult and important work in a very niche hobby. Your pcms are useless wastes of space without the work that they do to make them function in the source ROM.
Cease and desist.
On release, I'll take some credit. Most of the code is yours from nearly ten years ago though...Conn wrote:wow, that was really fast cubear, only suggestion:

This IPS/ASM will work on official roms + deluxe roms. It can replace the current patch in this post, once it has been fully tested.
Right now, only tested on USA, but I'll check other versions and if it can be done simply I might convert it.Conn wrote:2, the romhacking patch has several versions (usa/eur/jp), does the msu patch work on all of these/only usa, and/or do they need to be ported? - or my personal opinion: it's enough to only do the usa
Edit: Tested and it also works on JPN region as well. PAL is broken though, needs hooks updated.. I probably won't bother with porting to that version lol.
No real need for a new thread since this one should be cross compatible with deluxe and official release. It should also work with or without expanded soundtracks.Conn wrote:3, feel free to open a new thread in database when done, and I suggest to stuff the original patch from romhacking also into the archive or at least link to it
What I'd love is for somebody to test this with an unexpanded soundtrack on real hardware via fxpak or sd2snes as several tracks may be called in succession which might cause issues, notably on something like Forest 3 which will call PCM-28, then if that fails PCM-22, and if that fails PCM-15, which might be a bit slow on real hardware.

I actually think we should open a new thread. It is indeed cross compatible, which is nice and really well done work, but i would like to seperate just to save the length of the first post. We already have a TON of pcm sets on this page and this hack is going to generate a lot more.
The second thing too is we already have standardized on zeldix that rom hacks get their own new page, like mario world, mario world plus, and the plus ultra one, or all the deluxe versions of donkey kong and zelda. I can see someone skipping over F-Zero to try to find BS F-Zero.
Lastly, i think this should replace the old bs f-zero as this does completely outclasses this one. I was thinking.of starting a new forum for the bs-fzero deluxe and at the very bottom of that forum we will have the information and downloads of the old bs f-zero as a type of archive (then just delete the old bs one).
Anyway, i got starting pcm sets ready and i am making a preview video. I should be done tomorrow night, i would love to make official post then or we can wait if we feel we need more testing.
I also think we can make a link on the new thread that directs people to this thread as all pcm sets on this thread are compatible.

I completely agree with J, even if one patch works on both, we shouldn't make OP more messy than it already is. Also replacing my old patch with cubear's elegant solution of pcm fallback is novel (just keep my old in a old folder (not for safety reason, but for documentation reasons)
I agree 99% with @JUD6MENT;
however, I do not want the removal of F-Zero Grand Prix 2 (BS) because,
there is a lot of work involved, in addition to being a "different game" from the current F-Zero Deluxe, this being the most complete of them;
I think it should remain as it is for preservation purposes,
however for Deluxe, create a new topic;
I would like to at least do beta testing for you, but I'm not even able to do that, my work is eating up all my time,
I go out at night (dawn) I arrive home at night;
Guys: thank you very much to each one of you, I really do!!!

I was thinking of doing a combined post, move all the first bs stuff we have to be at the bottom of the page of the new post. I would never fully delete it, just combine to one as we do not need two anymore.
Ok, so roadmap:
1, Replace in this thread the native f-zero patch with that from cubear
2, make the bs f-zero page into f-zero deluxe / bs f-zero gp 1 & 2, and add the old bs gp 2 to bottom, alike we have for super star wars, mortal Kombat mk3/umk3?
