hey, Relikk.

I rendered 4 new files for the hybrid pack:

23 - Catacombs of the Dead
25 - Within the Tidal Reefs
36 - The Crests Are Hidden Forever
118 - Prelude to Horror

There's more info in the sheet.

I let both wav and pcm files in the pack. I normalized the tracks comparing to the ones you normalized. The pcms has already the looping information.

I updated to v5

theme $13 (19) doesn't loop anymore, however, I couldn't do anything with the intro Sad
It's quite complex with the organ fading in, then there is sometimes a music change from $12 to $13, sometimes not.
So I have to leave it the way it is. But as you pointed out, this doesn't make much difference.

I'll look into DKC2 now. Then I'll look if I can find other nice remastered tracks for your hybrid version.

I have listened to this ocremix before, but I think it's too different of the others.

The last three are original themes.

Unfortunately, only the most well known themes gets remixes and remade jobs. Sad

Everybody is welcome to search for the missing ones... in the end, Alex' themes are professional, and we can use them, I'd say to substitute the missings.

Anyways, here's v6 for consideration:

v7 post below correct.

It now should fix the intro bug, but there's a re-arrangement:
$12 - pcm 18: flames only (loop)
$3F - pcm 63: organ with flames in background (no loop)
Note on pcm 63: must be cut, so that the organ immediately play (no flames prelude anymore that was in pcm 18)

dani, please test it, and if it works, this will become the "official" patch.
Alex, please also change your set accordingly...

Sorry for this, but this is the only way it would work without bug.

I encountered still some problems with v6, in the level demos theme $12 faded in.

Here's the hopefully final fix:

pcm arrangement is the same as described above. If this works out you and Alex unfortunately will have to edit theme 18 and 63 in your spc/midi set

I played v7 and made the changes on the files here.

Good to know that it solved the issues, but now that the intro requires that 18.pcm ending fits the start of 63.pcm, I can notice that cut (problably because I know it is there and I expect for that. someone who does not know that may not hear).

Since i'm dealing with MSU-1 I notice when a song hits the looping point because it, weirdly, swaps the left and right channel of the audio. I'd never searched why this happens.

Anyway, I updated the enhanced pack to work with patch v7.

@dani, there is no technical possibility to make it otherwise, but yeah, the click is only noticeable by people who know it is there Razz
Other may think it is an "emulator flaw". This is really the best I can come up with the limitations msu has.

If there's a "click" during your track transitions then technically that means the waveforms of each track don't join at the zero crossover point when they change. Impossible to fix if the transitions are instantaneous.

Good practice when editing audio for MSU1, depending on the transition, is to insert about an 1/8 to 1/4 of a second of silence at the start of your file. That will eliminate any potential clicking as the waveforms won't be disjointed by the next track starting too quickly.

Oh sorry, misunderstanding. It's late here and I used the wrong word. I meant swap, not click. I didn't test the new set by dani yet. Guess in sd2snes it is worse since music loading takes some time. But it all should be fractions of a second. People who do not know that there is a swap, won't notice it, also due to the fire sound nature that is luckily "unstable".

Relikk, maybe you should test it with v7 and dani's spc set and report your impression?

It's not bad, there's a tiny noise during the transition. There's a little jingle when you receive the item after killing the zombie dragon, track 118 continues to play over this. It's hard to tell on the original ROM if the SPC is muted or suspended during that.

I've tested the channel flipping on BSNES and SD2SNES. I used a track with the audio deleted from the left channel so only audio was coming out of the right, so I'd know for sure if the channels were flipped after the loop point. Loop was set, used it on the story intro to Demon's Crest so it lasts a couple of minutes, and I've got no issues. The audio was only ever heard coming out of the right channel.

Your test was on sd2snes, right? So the stuff you noticed isn't devastating and we can leave the pcm and patch setup as it is? Very Happy

As for the jingle when receiving the item: It has to be there, comparing with the original rom... for me the spc plays over it. I remember having the discussion with Alex, he wanted that jingle msu:ed, but you also receive items later in the game, where also the msu/spc is played over it, so it is alright.

It's probably fixable in some way by fine-tuning the audio files, but it should be fine.

I just got an impression that it happens also in Bsnes, but your idea was great and I didn't thought about that before.

So, it's an issue of Snes9x v1.55 only. I'd record the test;

So speaking for Demon's crest, we have now everything to finish it up?
* we stick to v7, though the small flaw when changing the music in the intro
* hybrid set is settled, using those tracks we have and take the rest from Alex

So I wait for these 2 sets to be released... and then... 5 months. wow.

Can you or Relikk combine the 4 tracks with the benoit tracks Relikk posted previously?
Then I am not sure how to proceed... shall we wait until Alex finished his tracks or can one of you pcm his tracks to finish up the hybrid pack?
Reading Alex previous posts, he's quite short of time and has no objections if we finish up his set as well (I guess this since since he asked for loop points and normalization) - we have all we need, the wav:s and the loop stuff, so finishing up both sets is in reach - if you and Relikk want to go for it Wink
