Doctor Light Theme Update:
We originally released all three Mega Man X MSU-1 titles without the ability to play Doctor Light's theme. We have fixed that issue since original release of the patches. If you are a returning user of zeldix, you may find the below link useful as it has all Doctor Light Themes used in all the PCM sets in one collection.

Re: Mega Man X
hardtype version has been ported and updated too (first post).
The only pack supporting this new Dr light theme so far is
Mega Man X* [Krzysztof Slowikowski Guitar Playthrough] (-21dB):
- updated to support "Dr Light Theme" in v12 patch -
I hope Relikk and TheRetromancer update their packs as well, but we have spc fallback (or people take theme 174 from the guitar version)

To let you know (even if I miss the action), I was in touch with Her-Saki about the English translation because I asked him to port its patch for version 1.1 of RockMan X (mostly to avoid issues of the version 1.0 anti-copy protection on real hardware).
As far as I know I can give you two information:
- A version 1.6 of the translation could be release one day. I have made some tests of version 1.5 for Her-Saki and there is something in the ending cast roll. But it's up to him to decide if he wants to fix it.
- According to my tests, the "special anti-copy protection patch" is inevitable for RockMan X 1.0 and unnecessary for version 1.1 (the anti-copy protection is already fixed by Capcom version 1.1 itself).
@pepillopev Is it possible to send me the standalone version for your last RockMan X 1.1 msu-1 patch, if Her-Saki release a new version of its translation, I will be able to check compatibility more easily.

@alex
The msu source code asm is in the patch folder, you only need to run that with xkas on a fresh rom to extract a msu only patch.
Both Japanese versions have the special patch merged to avoid copier issues.

@ relikk missed your message, awesome much thanks -added V2 to it
Anybody knows who is hosting theretromancer set?
Anybody knows who is hosting theretromancer set?
Yes, Conn added support for it. I took the liberty of re-hosting your pack and adding the "Dr Light Theme" into it. I just pulled that missing theme from my purchased FLAC set. Yup, I supported the guy, this is a very good OST.JUD6MENT wrote:Doctor Light theme is working now?
The reason why this dr light was a toughy was that it actually is played as SFX, not SPC.
Is anybody willing to update TheRetromancer set with dr.light, then we are clean
I found e.g., this nice remake:

@Conn Ok, it is done. It is currently uploading (will be up shortly). Update your link.
Much thanks Pev
Oh, and before people request dr. light theme for x2,x3, xx, I think I have to disappoint. It was possible here since Pev reversed engineered the hex code from DS patch to asm, and even with it, it was quite a hard task. I never wanted this project to get mine, but it happened accidentaly to help Pev out a bit in this misery (MegaMan was never really a game I liked).

This is my all time favorite game, so thanks for both you and pev getting dr light theme in. Its ok if you are not up for the other two games just for a single track. I actually got two different half finished projects for this game that one day I will get done, if I ever find the time that is. But seriously, I have beaten this game at least 100 times, its my go to relax game.
It wouldn't be much a problem to insert the dr. light theme also for x2,x3 since I know what to do (code should be similar):

I briefly checked the code
MMX3 and MMX2 are both: Dr. Light theme is $5b=track-91
Ah well. I decided to quick&dirty code dr light theme for mmx2 & mmx3 inside.
5b=track91, is in both game dr.light theme
In mmx3 patch pack I found one patch labelled "zero" - I do not know what this is, but I ported it as well.
If somebody tests it and it is working I will update both patch pakages with these hacks... But I didn't test much so there's a good chance it happily crashes.
If it is working, there are maybe around 10 pcm sets for mmx 2, mmx 3, so I'd suggest instead of rehosting every set we put the track as optional download. There's also a spc fallback.

@Conn As per my previous direct email contact, your "Dr Light" theme played in MSU for both X2 and X3. Removing the PCM, happily falls back to SPC. Great job, Conn

Is the latest MSU-1 patch that applies Her-Saki's retranslation also compatible with the Capsule Remix hack (https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3409/) or parts of it? If not, is the MSU-1 patch for the original MMX compatible with said hack(s)?
Sorry for the double-post, but I have some interesting results from my patch experiments. Turns out the Capsule Remix hack is basically a no-go when using the patch that applies the Japanese re-translation along with the MSU-1 hack to a Japanese v1.1 ROM (the air dash glitches out and causes you to clip through solid objects, and sound effects stop playing whenever the Dr. Light music plays). Capsule Remix works with the MSU-1 hack for the US v1.1 ROM, but the same sound effect playback bug is still present. The bug is also present in the Japanese re-translation variant of the MSU-1 hack with no other patches applied, as well as with the US v1.1 patch. Surprisingly, when the PCM file for Dr. Light's theme isn't present, I run into a different sound bug in all v1.1-based versions of the MSU-1 hack: after Dr. Light's theme is done playing, the PCM music doesn't fade back in. PCM music doesn't start playing again until the game tries to load a new music track (e.g. restarting a level after death, entering the boss room, etc).
I don't understand, is the bug report from mixing some patches or also if you apply one of the provided patches with no other patch as well?
Actually pev and I tested all patches (alone with no other patch applied)

@OMorty We do appreciate your resolve in testing various patches, but this is starting to lead into some confusion. Your mentioned Capsule Remix hack seems like it might be conflicting with our MSU-1 code.
I suggest you keep your findings in the General MSU-1 forum area to prevent further confusion here. We try to leave this area open for actual bugs stemming from the msu-1 patch and correct ROM. This is one of the reasons I prefer using BPS over IPS to avoid scenarios like this. Conn and I tested the plain vanilla 1.0/1.1 ROMs with msu patch. Same applies for Her-Saki with MSU-1 code w/o issues. This bug seems self induced by using a non-verified patch (ie, Capsule Remix). At first, we were under the impression that you found a legitimate "Dr Light" theme bug.
I do not have any plans in adding support for this patch. I can only speak for myself on this. Conn would have to chime in this for himself. Reading what it offers it seems to me like a "glorified" Game Genie patch disguised as a hack. No offense on my statement, I am just not very good at wording sometimes. My statement is the best way I can put my beliefs on this matter.
Update: It also looks like the Capsule Remix was intended for the US 1.1 ROM and not the Jap 1.1 RockmanX. This is possible why you are having weird issues with the dash and stage clipping, adding even more issues with the msu patch applied as well.

I can only second pev. We are a handful asm hackers only here and mainly it is pev and me keeping up the maintenance. It is not of much interest which patches are compatible with which patches... It sounds harsher than intended, but we have 160 patches to maintain. Thus it is only of interest if these patches we provide bugs on native rom... We are human only, as mentioned before it is impossible to make every patch compatible with any patch, please understand. If it works, nice, if not... Well, you could learn asm and patch yourself.
Your message partly sounds like our patches bug on the native rom.

Such bug reports are always welcome (if valid). For other compatibility stuff I second pev again, open a thread in the general discussion
The bug is also present in the Japanese re-translation variant of the MSU-1 hack with no other patches applied,
Understood. I genuinely did not intend to come across as unappreciative or ignorant of the work involved. I will limit my posts in these threads to bug reports and other observations/questions regarding JUST the MSU-1 patches from now on.
That said, I still feel it's worth looking into the sound bugs I ran into when only applying the MSU-1 patches to their respective v1.1 ROMs, should someone feel like it. They appear regardless of Capsule Remix being present or not.

I just tested both RockMan-X ROMs 1.0 and 1.1 variants and had no issue. I will re-test MegaMan-X ROMs 1.0 and 1.1 to confirm.OMorty wrote:That said, I still feel it's worth looking into the sound bugs I ran into when only applying the MSU-1 patches to their respective v1.1 ROMs, should someone feel like it. Are you playing the game from the beginning and getting to a "Dr Light" capsule on a fresh cleanly patched ROM? Do not use save states as this loads what ever state you had prior to applying any patches (ie, you will have issues if you made a save state with a plain vanilla rom, capsule remix, etc then attempting to load from a differently patched rom).
I am using the latest stand alone bSnes emulator. I have not tested Snes9x.

I am not using any save states. I used passwords to skip to Chill Penguin's stage and test the bug. I always use the latest RetroArch Snes9x core when playing MSU-1 games, so that's where I encountered the sound bugs.
@Morty I can confirm that on bSnes v05, there is no problem with "Dr Light" on all four v12 patches. This is playing straight from the beginning. I will try using the passcode method to Chill and report my findings. Standby.
